Finding the New

First TimeI saw these words a couple of weeks ago and they have stayed with me. But I am being rude, forgive me; Hello! How was your weekend?! Now where was I? … Ah yes, the first time. Usually when I think of doing something new I always think of big things, like learning to fly a plane or traveling to a new country. Maybe that’s just the way my mind works, it goes from tiny to huge with nothing in-between.  When I read these words though; When was the last time you did something for the first time? something clicked and I thought “when was the last time I did something for the first time, something I have never ever done before?” and I couldn’t remember. I guess thinking back, learning to crochet earlier on in the year was the last time I tried something new, that was almost a year ago now, and that makes me sad 😦

Routine while important can be a real buzz kill, eh? Everyday holds so much potential and yet most days pass as carbon copies of the previous day. We eat the same things at the same time, we wear the same style of clothes, and if you are like me, you probably think the same thoughts, day in day out, simply because it has become a habit. Well no more I say! No more! I am going to remember these words any time I am feeling stuck. I am going to make a deliberate effort to seek out new things to try for the first time, simple things, little things, big things, who knows 🙂 I have started well, at the weekend I tried watermelon and blue cheese for the first time (yes I have lived a very sheltered life!)

So what new thing are you going to do for the first time today? Maybe just thinking about the concept will be it for today, but from tiny acorns do mighty oaks grow eh?!!! 🙂
