Did I scare you?! πŸ™‚ Happy Friday πŸ™‚ The witching hour is fast approaching, so today I have (as promised, yay!) something on the hook to help you get into the crafty mood for Halloween and help spook up your home. (well maybe just a little) Pumpkins! Halloween Pumpkins! Halloween jack-o’-lantern pumpkins! And the best part? It’s a free pattern, so you can download it and start making as many pumpkins as your heart desires a.s.a.p. πŸ™‚ Awesome, no?! Free Halloween Crochet Pumpkin Pattern

Here’s the basic materials you will need to be able to complete this pattern:

  • 3 DK colours of your choice, yarn scraps are ideal for this. For my pumpkins I used three different shades of orange/ yellow.
  • Green DK yarn for the crown.
  • Black DK yarn to embroider the facial features.
  • 4.0mm (G) crochet hook.
  • Yarn needle.
  • Toy stuffing.
  • Scissors.
  • Stitch Marker.

And the basic crochet skills you will need:

  • Double crochet (UK) / Single Crochet (US)
  • Treble crochet (UK) / Double Crochet (US)
  • Magic ring
  • Working in joined rounds
  • Working in front loop only
  • Decreasing
  • Increasing
  • Slip stitch

Basic Halloween Pumpkin shape:

Using your chosen yarn and a 4.0mm hook.

Start with 6dc into magic ring. (6sts.)

Round 1: *2dc into each st.* Repeat around. (12sts.)

Use stitch marker throughout to mark the first stitch and to help ensure you are starting a new round in the right place.

Round 2: Sl st into next st. Turn work. Dc into same st as sl st. Dc into all other st around. (12sts.)

From now until Round 20 you will be working on the wrong side of the piece.

Round 3: Sl st into next st to join round. 2dc into same st as sl st. *Dc into next st, 2dc into next st.* Repeat from * around. (18sts)

Round 4: Sl st into next st to join round. 2dc into same st as sl st. (Dc into next 2 st, 2dc into next st.) Repeat from * around. (24sts)

Round 5: Sl st into next st to join round. Working in front loops only; dc into same st as sl st. Dc into all other st around. (24sts)

Round 6: Sl st into next st to join round. 2dc into same st as sl st. *Dc into next 3 st, 2dc into next st.* Repeat from * around. (30sts)

Round 7: Sl st into next st to join round. Working in front loops only; 2dc into same st as sl st. *Dc into

next 4 st, 2dc into next st.* Repeat from * around. (36sts)

Round 8: Sl st into next st to join round. Dc into same st as sl st. Dc into all other st around. (36sts)

Round 9: Sl st into next st to join round. Working in front loops only; dc into same st as sl st. Dc into all other st around. (36sts)

Remember to keep track of your stitch count and always join each round with a sl st & work 1st st of each round into same st as sl st.

Round 10: Sl st into next st to join round. 2dc into same st as sl st. *Dc into next 5 st, 2dc into next st.* Repeat from * around (42sts)

Round 11: Sl st into next st to join round. Working in front loops only; dc into same st as sl st. Dc into all other st around. (42sts)

Round 12: Sl st into next st to join round. Dc into same st as sl st. Dc into all other st around. (42sts)

Round 13: Sl st into next st to join round. Working in front loops only; dc into same st as sl st. Dc into all other st around. (42sts)

Round 14: Sl st into next st to join round. Dc into same st as sl st. Dc into all other st around. (42sts)

Round 15: Sl st into next st to join round. Working in front loops only; dc into same st as sl st. Dc into all other st around. (42sts)

Round 16: Sl st into next st to join round. Dc into same st as sl st. Dc into next 4 st, dc2tog. *Dc into next 5 st, dc2tog.* Repeat from * around. (36sts)

Round 17: Sl st into next st to join round. Working in front loops only; Β dc into same st as sl st. Dc into next 3 st, invdec. *Dc into next 4 st, invdec.* Repeat from * around. (30sts)

Round 18: Sl st into next st to join round. Dc into same st as sl st. Dc into next 2 st, dc2tog. *Dc into next 3 st, dc2tog.* Repeat from * around. (24sts)

Round 19: Sl st into next st to join round. Working in front loops only; Β dc into same st as sl st. Dc into next st, invdec. *Dc into next 2 st, invdec.* Repeat from * around. (18sts)

Time for a little assembly:

  1. Turn work inside out (i.e. right way round) and stuff to give even shape.
  2. When stuffing ensure to leave the hollow at the top of piece unstuffed, i.e pushed down. This will allow you to attach the crown later.

Round 20: Sl st into next st to join round. Dc into same st as sl st. Dc into all other st around. (18sts)

Round 21: Sl st into next st to join round. Working in front loops only; Β dc into same st as sl st. Invdec. *Dc into next st, invdec.* Repeat from * around. (12sts)

Round 22: Sl st into next st to join round. Dc2tog (starting with same st as sl st.) Repeat around. (6sts)

Fasten off leaving a long tail. Add a little extra stuffing if required. Use yarn tail to sew up hole.

Crown:

Using a 4.0mm hook and your chosen yarn;

Start with 6dc into magic ring. (6sts.)

Round 1: *2dc into each st.* Repeat to end. (12sts.)

Round 2: Tr into each st around. (12sts.)

Round 3: 3 tr into next st. *sl st into next 2 st, 3 tr into next st.* Repeat from * 3 more times.

Fasten off leaving a long tail.

And finally:

  1. Using it’s yarn tail sew the crown into the hollow of the pumpkin.
  2. Using your black yarn, embroider some facial features onto your pumpkin(s) and your done!
